The Park Board’s Special Facilities Division will rent both for $8 per hour; $25 for a four-hour rental; and $45 for an eight-hour rental, from the 4,000-square-foot Lake Springfield Boathouse and Marina, located on the north shore of Lake Springfield.

Park hours are sunrise to sunset. Boathouse hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. in May; 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. in June & July; 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. in August & September; and 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. from October – May. Rented canoes and kayaks must be returned each day one hour prior to boathouse closing. The facility offers 17’ canoes, single kayaks and two-person kayaks.

Paddlers will use the James River Linear Park Water Trail as the trail route, which runs approximately six miles one-way, along the Springfield Nature and Conservation Center and Galloway Creek, to Crighton Beach. Renters must be 18 years of age, with minors accompanied by an adult. All participants must sign a waiver and wear provided life jackets.

The retail shop offers snacks, soft drinks, ice, minnows, worms, tackle, fishing and hunting licenses, and other sundry items. A community room is available for rent, and features seating for 80 with an attached full kitchen, flexible hours and a view of the lake from the room and 1,450-square-foot deck.
