Police Investigate Crash Involving CU Bus
At approximately 1:53 P.M., Springfield Police attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Broadway and Chestnut Exp., for a minor traffic violation. The vehicle refused to stop and fled the scene. Officers did not pursue the suspect vehicle. At approximately 1:55 P.M., officers observed the same vehicle Main and Chestnut Exp. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle a second time but the suspect failed to yield again. A short time later, a passenger was found walking in the area of Main and Chestnut. The person was identified as Kara Davis and was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, and was arrested for Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance (pending charges by Greene County Prosecutor).
The suspect vehicle was sighted in the area of Walnut and National, eastbound. Officers searching for the suspect vehicle located the vehicle at Glenstone and Walnut where it had collided with a C.U. bus. At the time of the crash, the Springfield Police Department was not in pursuit of the suspect vehicle. Witnesses stated the suspect vehicle ran the stop sign and collided with the C.U. Bus. Four people were transported to the hospital including the operator of the suspect vehicle.
Tomorrow Springfield Police Department will be presenting charges of Second Degree Assault, two counts of Attempting to Elude, and Careless and Imprudent Operation of a Vehicle against the driver.
