Purse Snatchings Being Investigated

The Springfield Police Department is investigating the thefts of purses at four business locations in south Springfield. The victims had their purses stolen while on the parking lots of local businesses. The suspects have either driven by and physically taken the purses out of shopping carts, or confronted the victim and taken the purse.

One of the suspects has been described as a white male, early to mid-twenties with short blond hair. The second suspect has been described as a white male.

The suspect vehicle has been described as a gray, mid-1990’s Mercury Sable. In the majority of the cases the vehicle was not displaying a license plate. However, in one of the thefts a witness reported that part of license plate read 018.

The thefts have occurred over the last six days at the following locations.

Attached is a surveillance photo of the vehicle. Anyone with information regarding the thefts is asked to call the Springfield Police Department at 864-1810 or Crime Stoppers at 864-TIPS (864-8477). Information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects could result in a reward up to $1000.
