Southwest Missouri Senior Games

Registration for the 2009 Southwest Missouri Senior Games continues, with competition running Wednesday, June 3 – Sunday, June 7 in Springfield, Mo.

The SMSG are intended to provide an outlet for positive sports and recreational involvement for citizens of Southwest Missouri. The Games are an opportunity for athletes to embrace competitive games in a fun and challenging manner with other seniors, and serve as preparation for the athletes competing in the Missouri State Senior Games in Columbia, Mo.

The SMSG are open to athletes 50+ years and offer events in eight-ball, archery, Baggo, basketball skill events, bocce ball, bowling, canoeing, cycling, dominoes, electronic darts, golf, horseshoes, Pinochle, Skip-Bo, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track & field, and washer toss. Softball events will be held later this summer, July 24 – 26.

Room for participants in all activities is still available, but limited. For registration information, visit www.parkboard.org or call (417) 837-5808. Registration is $8 with an additional event/facility fee for bowling, golf and tennis.

The SMSG headquarters are located at the Park Board’s Northview Center, 301 E. Talmage St., Springfield Mo., 65803.

The Games are sponsored by Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield, Oxford Health Care and Cox Health Care – Meyer Fitness. Partners include Archery Quest, Community Hospices of America, Cross Roads Archery Club, Doling Park Horse Club, Seasons Hospice, St. John’s Older Adult Services, Southwest Missouri Office on Aging, Spring Bike Cycling Club, and The Manor at Elfindale. The Games were formerly the Senior Fitness Days Hosted by the Missouri Office on Aging.
