Ribbon Cutting Celebrates New WIC Facility in Republic
The Springfield-Greene County Health Department formally celebrates the opening of a new WIC facility in Republic with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:00 am on Friday, June 12, 2009. The ceremony will include comments from local officials, a special recognition to Hood United Methodist Church and a tour of the facility.
This site will serve approximately 1,000 people enrolled in the Women, Infants and Children nutrition education and supplemental food program. WIC serves to safeguard the health of eligible women, infants and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk. It is designed to improve the nutritional health of pregnant women, breastfeeding moms, infants and children with the goal of improving the overall health of families.
After holding a WIC satellite clinic at the Hood United Methodist Church for well over 18 years, the new WIC office, located at 937 E Lindsey, opened to clients on May 18, 2009.
“Over the past 18 years that we’ve had a presence in Republic, we have seen the need for the WIC program grow as the community has grown,” says program coordinator Mary Ellison. “This 1275 square foot office will allow us to better serve our clients by optimizing our resources and providing a convenient location for them to participate in the program.”
The Republic WIC office will initially be open Monday and Tuesday mornings and Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. Hours will be expanded as needed.
