For Immediate Release
Co-interim Fire Chiefs Named
A search committee is in the process of advertising nationally for the Fire Chief’s position. The application deadline is Friday, July 10. The job posting is on the City Web site at: http://www.springfieldmo.gov/business/jobs/city.jsp
David Hall has served as the Assistant Chief for Operations since 2007. He is a 20-year veteran of the Department and has served as firefighter, equipment operator, truck captain, fire captain and battalion chief.
Randy Villines has served as the Assistant Chief for Technical Services since 2007. He is a 16-year veteran of the Department and has served as firefighter, equipment operator, truck captain, station captain, fire marshal and battalion chief.
Burris made an exception to the ongoing General Fund hiring freeze to fill the Chief’s position by leaving open another administrative position created by the recent retirement of Assistant Chief Steve Hoerning.
“We want to conduct a broad search for this position to give us a strong pool of candidates,” Burris said. “I feel confident that Randy and David are very capable of handling the Chief’s duties in addition to their own during this search process. We basically have two people filling four roles in this interim period, so I know they also will have the support of the fire service and administrative staff to keep the department running effectively during this challenging period.”
Rowell retired Friday, June 5, after 25 years of service to the Department, including the last two as Fire Chief.
