320 Players Begin Tennis Tournament Today

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board will host top Midwest tennis players during the 2009 United States Tennis Association (USTA) / Missouri Valley Junior Super 2 Segment 2 Tennis Championships beginning today, Friday, June 12 through Tuesday, June 16.

The regional tournament features 320 boys and girls from five states, 10-to-18 years of age. Both singles and doubles matches will be played each day. Players have the opportunity to earn points toward their national ranking during this event.

Matches start daily at 8 a.m. and continue throughout the day and early evening. There is no admission fee for spectators at any of the games.

Because of the size of the tournament, facilities across Springfield are being used, including: Cooper Tennis Complex, 2331 E. Pythian St.; Gillenwaters Tennis Complex, 3635 S. Jefferson Ave.; Perry Tennis Courts, National Avenue and Bennett Street; and Missouri State University Tennis Courts, 901 S. National Ave.
