National, Grand Lane Closures Underway

Construction is underway on the improvements at Grand Street and National Avenue and motorists should anticipate lane closures throughout the summer that may create additional traffic congestion in that area.

The westbound lanes on Grand west of National will be closed through the end of the day Friday, July 10. The eastbound lanes are temporarily converted to two-way access so the full intersection remains open, but traffic may be slowed. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes when possible during the construction this summer.

The improvements at the intersection will include new dual left-turn lanes from eastbound Grand to northbound National and from northbound National to westbound Grand. Right-turn lanes will be added on southbound National to westbound Grand and westbound Grand to northbound  National. The right-turn lane also will be improved for eastbound Grand to southbound National.

The project also includes a new traffic signal system for pedestrian safety and access.

The $1.16 million project is funded by the quarter-cent sales tax for capital improvements. Hartman & Co. is the general contractor for the project.
