Rivercut Takes Top Golf Digest Honors

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board’s Rivercut Golf Course, 2850 W. Farm Road 190, has been named the “Best Muny” in the state of Missouri by Golf Digest Magazine in its August 2009 issue.

Golf Digest selected Rivercut as its best municipal course by using a combination of the star ratings from its Best Places to Play and Best in State rankings system, to bestow the course four-and-a-half stars, out of five. The only course in the nation to receive five stars was New York’s Bethpage Black, the site of this year’s U.S. Open.

The 7,066-yard, par 72, Rivercut course opened in 1997 and is the crown jewel of the Park Board system, averaging more than 27,000 rounds per year. Besides its current ranking by Golf Digest Magazine, it also was considered a Top 5 public course in Missouri by Golfweek Magazine. The course also receives high marks from its users as it was named the best course in the area by two local publications’ readers.

Rivercut will play host to the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Bass Pro Shops/Payne Stewart Family Foundation Tournament and activities from July 26—30. This is the third consecutive year that the event will be held in Springfield. In 2007, Rivercut received AJGA’s prestigious “Newcomer of the Year” award for being the top new event on the annual AJGA tournament schedule. AJGA Tournaments were the training ground for players such as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Lorena Ochoa and Paula Creamer.
