Ozzie Smith Sports Academy

Springfield-Greene County Park Board is partnering with the Ozzie Smith Sports Academy to offer a Summer Basketball Camp on July 18—19 and a Summer Baseball Camp on July 20—24.

Both camps will be open to boys and girls ages 7—18, and will be hosted by owner Dave Randolf, who played both baseball and basketball at Principia College in Elsah, Ill. Camp participants will receive a t-shirt, camp certificate, tips from the pros and an individual player evaluation.

The Basketball Camp will be on Saturday, July 18—Sunday, July 19 at Doling Family Center, 301 E. Talmage, and will cover the “big five”: shooting dribbling, passing, rebounding and defense, as well as have a daily scrimmage. The camp will be from Noon—3 p.m. for ages 7—12 and from 3:30—6:30 p.m. for ages 13—18, with a cost of $59 per participant. A key instructor is Jean Francois Bro Grebe, a 6’9” forward, who played on the Ivory Coast national team and in several African leagues.

The Baseball Camp will be on Monday, July 20—Friday, July 24 at Cooper Sports Complex, 2331 E. Pythian, and will cover everything from hitting and base running to pitching and defense, as well as have a daily scrimmage. The camp will be from 8:30 a.m.—1:30 p.m. and will cost $159 per participant. Two of the instructors will be Mike Hopkins and Brad Lancaster from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville’s baseball team.
