Safety & Justice Roundtable to Present Final Report

The Safety & Justice Roundtable will present its final report to the Greene County Commission and the Springfield City Council at an open meeting Wednesday, July 22, 10 a.m., at the Office of Emergency Management media briefing room, 833 Boonville Ave, Springfield.

Roundtable co-chairs Robert Spence and Jean Twitty will discuss the group’s findings and recommendations for the community’s public safety and criminal justice system with the Council and the Commission. The report addresses the Police-Fire Pension Fund shortfall, the jail population, the Family and Juvenile Justice system, emergency response agencies, data sharing and interagency communications, staffing needs and facilities expansions, as well as specific recommendations for each agency.

The Safety & Justice Roundtable is an 18-member citizen task force formed by the County Commission and City Council in December 2007, charged with developing a comprehensive understanding of the community’s criminal justice and public safety system. The group was asked to identify and prioritize the needs within the system and recommend possible solutions for those needs.

The final report represents a year and a half of work by the Roundtable. Copies of the report will be available at the meeting.
