Kidnapping, Domestic Assault
Fabian Barnes, 30, of Springfield has been charged with Kidnapping, Felonious Restraint, two counts of 2nd degree Domestic Assault, three counts of First Degree Burglary and one count of 1st degree Domestic Assault. The charges have been filed reference several domestic assaults since June 28, 2009. The victim in each incident was Barnes’ 26-year old former girlfriend.
The most recent incident occurred on July 19, 2009 just after 11:00 p.m. Barnes physically assaulted the victim, and forced her to leave her residence in the 1400 block of E. Redwood. During the assault Barnes attempted to stab the victim, and then forced the victim out her residence and into a car.
Barnes then drove the victim to the area of the 2200 block of N. Pickwick where she was able to escape from the suspect. Barnes then attempted to get the victim back in the car by physically assaulting her. The victim’s screams were overheard by a Springfield Firefighter and a Cox Paramedic, who were in the area on an unrelated medical call. When the witnesses approached Barnes he fled from the area on foot. The victim was transported to a local hospital and treated and released.
Police arrested Barnes yesterday afternoon after receiving a tip on his whereabouts. He was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into the Greene County Jail. Bond is set at $265,000.
