Four Police Officers Receive Awards

On December 18, 2008, Officers were sent to 2550 W. Atlantic regarding an armed subject attempting to commit suicide. Upon arrival, it was discovered that a female relative had remained in the trailer, reportedly holding on to the firearm in an attempt to prevent the male from shooting himself.

The responding officers, Corporal Rob Schroeder, Officers Jason Kitta, Ethan Ramsey and Cody Williams, immediately recognized the danger the female was in and quickly formed an entry team. Knowing they would be facing an armed subject, they entered the trailer without hesitation and found the male and female in an active struggle over the handgun. Officers subdued the male subject utilizing less lethal means and detained him without causing injury. The officer’s quick and decisive actions prevented the male from harming himself, the female or responding officers and clearly demonstrated their commitment to saving lives.

These officers will be awarded the Meritorious Service Award in a ceremony at the Police Headquarters (321 E. Chestnut Expressway) on Monday, July 27th, at 3:00PM. All media are welcome to attend.
