7th Annual Dog Fest Features Dachshund Dash

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board and Citizens Dog Park Committee will present the 7th Annual Dog Fest event from 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 26, at Chesterfield Park, 2511 W. Republic Road. (Rain date is 1 – 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 27).

The free event features all-canine related commercial vendors and non-profit organizations and demonstrations. This year’s activities and demonstrations include: Dog Yoga, “Doga”; demonstrations by Carting Dogs of the Ozarks; Water Patrol Officer Ryan Zellar and his drug-sniffing dog; kids dog contests; and a check presentation by Pet Warehouse, where proceeds will go back into the Cruse Dog Park.

The 5th annual Dachshund Dash will be held throughout the day as well, with several heats of racing. This popular race features more than 50 Dachshund dogs. Registration for the race is limited and is $20.

The Dog Fest event is free and open to the public. All dogs must be on leash.

Proceeds benefit the Cruse Dog Park, 2100 W. Catalpa St. The Dog Park Committee is currently selling $5 lanyards with a Cruse Dog Park imprint as a fundraiser to plant moderate-to-fast growing shade trees in the park this fall. The lanyards will be available for sale at Dogfest.

The Cruse Dog Park was dedicated in late 2008. Since then, more than 900 dogs have been registered for the six-acre park. A fee of $25 per dog is required for 12 months of access to the Park, with a two dog limit per handler. Proof of vaccinations from a licensed veterinarian for Rabies, Parvo, Distemper, and Bordetella are required for the registration process. Applications also are available by visiting the Park Board Office, 1923 N. Weller, or by calling (417) 864-1049 during normal business hours.

Daily passes are available for $10 per dog, per day, with a $10 “fob” deposit at both Chesterfield Family Center, 2511 W. Republic Road, and the Park Board Office during normal business hours. Visit the Dog Park’s Web site at or at
