Mexican Delegation Offers FREE Performances
The Springfield Sister Cities Association will host a delegation of Tlaquepaque, Mexico officials and the visiting all-female mariachi group “Mariachi Femenil Nuevo Tecalitlan” will perform a number of public appearances within the Springfield community leading up to the upcoming ArtsFiesta! event on Friday, Oct. 9 in Founders Park.
The officials from Springfield’s sister city represent the Tlaquepaque Sister Cities Association, along with the City of Tlaquepaque, including Mayor Hernan Cortez. Guests from the Consulate of Mexico in Kansas City, Mo. will also be visiting. Among other things, officials are expected to discuss strategies for university exchanges, fire department protection, and continued business opportunities between the cities.
Mariachi Femenil Nuevo Tecalitlan will visit a number of public and private elementary and middle schools and Boys and Girls Club members in the area. A number of free public performances are also scheduled, including:
- Noon, Wednesday, Oct. 7 – Drury University, Findlay Student Center, 900 N. Benton Ave.
- Noon, Thursday, Oct. 8 – Ozarks Technical Community College, Information Commons Atrium Area, 1001 E. Chestnut Expressway
- Noon, Friday, Oct. 9 – Missouri State University, Plaster Student Union, 901 S. National Ave.
- 2:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 9 – Busch Municipal Building, First-Floor Lobby, 840 Boonville Ave.
ArtsFiesta! is a rescheduled event from May, which will be held from 6 – 9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 9, in Founders Park, 330 E. Water St., in downtown Springfield. The event is $3. Children under the age of 10 are free. A rain date of Saturday, Oct. 10, is scheduled in the event of inclement weather.
