Councilmen, State Representative to Hold Oct. 19 Town Hall on CIDs

Zone 1 City Councilman Nick Ibarra, General Councilman Doug Burlison and State Rep. Eric Burlison will co-host a Town Hall meeting focusing on the topic of Community Improvement Districts on Monday, Oct. 19.

The public is invited to attend the meeting at the Brentwood Library, 2214 Brentwood Blvd. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Rep. Burlison, R-136, will open the forum with background on the state’s role in CIDs, followed by Councilmen Ibarra and Burlison discussing the City of Springfield’s involvement in CIDs.

Community Improvement Districts are authorized by state legislation for property owners and residents within certain boundaries to vote on whether to create self-imposed taxing districts to pay for certain improvements or services within that district. Springfield currently has eight CIDs. For information on the City’s CID districts, visit: http://gismaps.springfieldmo.gov/cid/

The Councilmen will discuss proposals for signage notifying patrons at locations where CIDs are in effect in Springfield and Rep. Burlison will talk about ideas he is considering for CIDs at the state level.

The meeting will wrap up with general discussion and a question-and-answer period.
