For Immediate Release
Recycling Centers, Offices Closed for Veteran's Day
The City of Springfield recycling centers and City offices will be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, in observance of Veteran’s Day.
The Lone Pine Recycling Center experienced a very high volume of customers last weekend for the fall cleanup season. Residents are advised that Thursdays and Fridays are the lowest-volume days at Lone Pine if they want to consider recycling on those less-congested days.
The additional fall hours of 1 to 5 p.m., Sundays, continue through Dec. 6 at both Lone Pine and the Yardwaste Recycling Center.
People with a large amount of yard waste are encouraged to take the material to the Yardwaste Recycling Center. Leaves are accepted free of charge from City residents. An honor system fee of 50 cents per bag applies only to non-residents. Brush is accepted from Springfield-Greene County residents with a $3 per vehicle fee.

To reduce the volume of leaves taken to the Centers, homeowners may also: use a backyard compost; compress/mulch/chop the leaves before bagging; or mulch the leaves and let the material decompose on the lawn if the quantity is small.
