National and Grand Ribbon-cutting

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at the intersection of National Avenue & Grand Street to celebrate the recent completion of the improvements to that intersection.

Funding for the $1.4 million improvement was provided by the 1/4 Cent Capital Improvements Sales Tax.

This project includes: addition of dual left turn lanes in two directions, right turn lanes in three directions, storm water management enhancements and traffic signal improvements.

The General Contractor for the project was Hartman & Company, Inc., with engineering services provided by ESC Consulting Engineers. Construction began on June 1, 2009.

The project will improve circulation and safety for traffic, pedestrians, and bicycles on and adjacent to the Missouri State University campus.

“We appreciate the cooperation of local property owners, including the right of way donation from Missouri State University,” said Marc Thornsberry, Springfield Public Works Director. “They are to be commended for their cooperation and patience.”
