For Immediate Release
Chris Straw Named Interim BDS Director
City Code Administrator Chris Straw has been named the Interim Director for the Building Development Services Department, effective Jan. 31, 2010 when current Director Nick Heatherly retires.
Straw began working for the City in 1999 as a plan review specialist. He also served as a project facilitator before being named Code Administrator in 2004. Prior to joining the City, Straw worked for several firms in the private sector, including Bell Buildings Systems, Hood-Rich Architects and for Architect Richard E. Hardy.
Straw is a graduate of Missouri State University and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1974. He is currently the president of the Southwest Missouri Code Officials and is a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating & Air Conditioning Engineers and the Construction Specifications Institute.
“I feel very confident that Chris will do a great job handling the responsibilities of BDS when Nick retires,” City Manager Greg Burris said. “Just recently, Chris headed the BDS team that responded quickly and aggressively to the site of the house explosion in northwest Springfield that caused significant life-safety issues to a number of nearby homes.”
