For Immediate Release
Open House for West Bypass-Mt. Vernon St. Project
The public is invited to an open house on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, to review preliminary plans for improvements at the intersection of West Bypass and Mt. Vernon Street in west Springfield.
The drop-in open house will take place from 4 to 6 p.m., Dec. 15, at the Christ United Methodist Church, 3537 W. Mt. Vernon St.
The proposed improvements are intended to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance safety. City staff will be available to discuss the concept plan and specific concerns and issues for area property owners and businesses. There will be no formal presentation.
The City is committed to working with area property owners for improved traffic flow and safety of this intersection, which serves a growing residential area in west Springfield. The concept plan includes the addition of a separate right-turn lane for eastbound traffic on Mt. Vernon turning south onto West Bypass and a longer left-turn lane for northbound traffic on West Bypass turning west onto Mt. Vernon. The plan also includes traffic-signal modifications. The City also is considering separate right-turn lanes for northbound and southbound traffic on West Bypass turning onto Mt. Vernon.
A copy of the preliminary plan and other detailed information will be on display at the open house. Participants can offer comments and/or written statements and exhibits. Anyone who is unable to attend the open house can review the plans at the Traffic Engineering Division office at the Busch Building, 840 Boonville Ave.
Comments also may be submitted to: Assistant Director of Public Works Earl Newman, Traffic Engineering Division, 840 Boonville Ave., Springfield, MO, 65802. Comments also may be submitted via e-mail to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
