Shop With a Hero Today, Thursday

Springfield and Greene County first responders will participate in this year’s “Shop with a Hero” program today and Thursday, thanks to the generosity of Wal-Mart in providing gift cards to support the program.

Wal-Mart is providing $20,000 in gift cards, which will allow children selected by the Missouri Division of Family Services to receive $75 each to shop for their families.

The children will be shopping after 4 p.m. today and on Thursday, Dec. 17, at the Wal-Mart stores at 1923 E. Kearney St., and 2021 E. Independence St.

Each child will be accompanied by a first responder from one of the participating agencies, including the  Springfield Fire Department, Springfield Police Department, Greene County Sheriff’s Office, EMS crew members from CoxHealth and St. John’s Health System, members of local volunteer fire departments and representatives of various military branches. Springfield Fire Marshal Kevin Binam is coordinating this year’s program.

For more information, contact: the Springfield Fire Department, 864-1500.

NOTE: No photos or video that could possibly identify the children involved may be taken during this program.
