Police Academy Informational Seminar
An informational seminar about the upcoming police officer testing process for the 60th Police Academy class will take place on Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at the South District Station Community Room, 2620 W. Battlefield Road.
The session will begin at 7 p.m. for regular applicants and at 8 p.m., for lateral applicants (people with previous police experience in another jurisdiction).
The application deadline for the next Academy will be 5 p.m., Friday, Jan. 8, 2010.
The Springfield Police Department has added a Facebook page to its recruiting efforts as the application process continues with testing and interviews in January and February prior to employment offers planned for April 2010.
The Facebook page is: “Springfield Missouri Police Department – Recruitment”. The goal is to use it as another way to communicate with applicants and general Facebook users about the process to become a Springfield police officer.
The Facebook page includes features like a video showing what the physical agility test entails and information about the testing process.
Information about the testing process also is available at www.gospd.com - click on the Employment tab.
The actual job posting and online application information is available on the City’s Web site at: www.springfieldmo.gov/jobs/vacancy/296.html
After the successful referendum on Nov. 3 to provide a dedicated revenue source for the Police-Fire Pension System, the City Council indicated its willingness to begin planning for a new Police Academy to start in conjunction with the 2010-11 budget year on July 1, 2010. The new sales-tax revenue for the pension fund will allow the City to stabilize its ongoing contribution to the pension fund and lift the hiring freeze for some of the frozen police and fire positions.
