For Immediate Release

Volunteer Glade/Trail Work Day at Lake Springfield Park

A Volunteer Glade/Trail Work Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 6, at Lake Springfield Park, 2312 E. Lake Springfield Park Road.

Volunteers will help drag small trees and limbs to restore a glade area and in order to assist in the continued development of a hiking trail on the property. The wood will be mulched and will be used to help prevent erosion along the north shore banks of Lake Springfield. In 2009, more than 100 volunteers helped to develop the first quarter-mile of the Greater Ozarks Audubon Hiking Trail at a similar event.

All necessary tools will be provided. Volunteers are asked to bring work gloves, sturdy shoes, water bottle and to dress for the weather. Lunch is provided for all volunteers from noon–1 p.m.

Volunteers should register by calling (417) 864-1051 by Wednesday, Feb. 3, and report to the Lake Springfield Boathouse & Marina to check-in on Saturday. A rain date of Saturday, Feb. 13 is planned. Call the Boathouse at (417) 891-1550 in the event of inclement weather for cancellation details.

The event is presented by the Greater Ozarks Audubon Society, Missouri Department of Conservation, Volunteers for Outdoor Missouri and the Springfield-Greene County Park Board.
