Summary of Citizen Volunteer Requests
The City of Springfield made several requests this week for citizens who would be interested in volunteering for a variety of committee roles.
The following information summarizes the calls for volunteers, application information and deadlines.
Police Officers’ and Firefighters’ Retirement System Board of Trustees
The City Council Public Involvement Committee is seeking three citizens with specific areas of expertise and one citizen at large for the Board, along with a retiree of the pension system.
- One member with expertise in the area of financial or investment management;
- One member with expertise in the area of actuarial analysis or auditing;
- One member with expertise in the medical field as a nurse or physician, particularly in disability determinations or workers compensation;
- One citizen-at-large who would have at least two years of residency within the City of Springfield; and
- A retiree from the pension system to serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the board.

Citizens’ Sales Tax Oversight Committee
The Public Involvement Committee also is seeking citizens interested in reviewing and monitoring the collection of the ¾-cent Pension Fund Sales Tax revenues and allocations to ensure that the revenues received by the City are properly deposited into the City’s self-funded Police-Fire Pension Fund.

Long-Range Planning Groups
The City is looking for citizens who want to serve on one of the work groups for the City of Springfield’s long-range strategic planning process.
The application asks citizens to list their top six areas of interest among the 11 planning groups and the coordinating committee. The topics of the planning groups are: Arts and Culture; Economic Development; Education/Workforce Development; Early Childhood Development; Global Perspectives and Diversity; Growth Management and Land Use; Housing; Natural Environment; Public Health; Public Safety; Transportation; and the overall Strategic Plan Coordinating Committee.
The participants will be selected by the Chairs of the Planning Groups, which are in the process of being developed by City Manager Greg Burris and Greene County Administrator Tim Smith.
