Morning Fire Results in Fatality
The Springfield Fire Department was dispatched to an early morning fire at 910 South Rogers that left a 72 year old woman dead. The fire was reported to 911 by a neighbor at 3:21 am. Carol Ann Martin, a resident of the home, died in the fire, while her daughter, Cheryl Martin of Roach, Missouri escaped the blaze after being awakened by a smoke alarm.
Crews arrived within minutes to find heavy fire in the back of the house with heavy smoke throughout. Crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control; however, the fire resulted in significant damage to the structure.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Springfield Fire Marshal's office.
