Open House on 1/4-cent Projects Tonight

The City of Springfield wants to remind citizens that the first of two public meetings seeking feedback on the proposed list of new quarter-cent sales tax projects takes place tonight.

The drop-in style open house will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Library Center, 4653 S. Campbell Ave.

Citizens can review the proposed projects, discuss or ask questions of staff members and fill out comment cards.

A second meeting with the same format will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 18, at Fire Station No. 5, 2750 W. Kearney St.

The City Council will consider the list of projects for the next quarter-cent program in preparation for a June referendum to continue the program Springfield voters first approved in 1989. One category of the program provides funding for new high-priority transportation improvements. The Council is interested in community input as it narrows the list of new projects to match anticipated funding over the next three years.

Citizens also can offer input through an online survey that will be posted through Friday, Feb. 19. The survey offers short descriptions of the full list of projects and asks for comment on any or all of them. The online survey is available at: cipsurvey.questionpro.com

The feedback from the online survey and open houses will be forwarded to the City Council for a follow-up meeting on the quarter-cent program on Feb. 23, 2010.

Any citizens without computer or Internet access who cannot attend one of the open-house meetings can call 864-1010 to obtain the survey information.

A copy of last week’s Powerpoint presented at the City Council’s weekly lunch meeting, along with other resources about the quarter-cent program, are available at: www.springfieldmo.gov/budget/cip.html under the “Recent Reports and Highlights” section.
