Two Charged With 2nd Degree Robbery

Cody A. Harrell, 22, and Nicholas L. Jones, 24, of Springfield have been charged with 2nd Degree Robbery in connection with the theft of a purse on the parking lot of 1707 W. Battlefield at Dillon’s on March 30, 2010 at about 3:00 p.m.

A 39-year old female was on the parking lot unloading groceries when one of the suspects’s got out of a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer and grabbed her purse from the shopping cart. The victim, at the same time, grabbed her purse and physical fight occurred in which the suspect wrestled the purse away from the victim. During the physical fight the victim was able to tear part of the suspect’s shirt off. The victim suffered no serious injuries as a result of the fight.

A witness at the scene was able to provide a good physical description of the suspects, as well as a license plate. An off duty detective heard that information broadcast on his police radio recognized the description of the two suspects, and vehicle and was able to alert on-duty officers as to suspects possible location. Officers found the suspects a short time later and arrested them.

Police were able to recover the victim’s purse, as well as the ripped t-shirt from the suspect in a dumpster near the Chesterfield Village.

Both men are being held on a $15,000 bond.
