May Sales Tax Check Up 8.59 Percent
The City of Springfield’s general sales tax check for the month of May 2010 is up 8.59 percent compared to May 2009. The monthly gain means the City’s General Fund revenues are now 6.97 percent below budget for the fiscal year, which ends June 30.
Quarterly budget adjustments since September 2009 and an ongoing hiring freeze since January 2009 have allowed the City to balance its budget despite overall negative sales tax revenues.
