Public Forum on Storage Containers May 24
The City of Springfield Planning Department will host a public forum about storage trailers and containers from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Monday, May 24 in City Council Chambers in Historic City Hall, 830 Boonville Ave.
Representatives from Planning, Building Development Services and the Fire Department will take input from the public, business owners and other stakeholders on proposed amendments to the City’s zoning ordinance and fire code.
The proposed amendments can be viewed and downloaded at www.springfieldmo.gov/planning. Hard copies can be obtained at the Zoning Center on the first floor of the Busch Building, 840 Boonville Ave. The meeting will air live via CityView on cable (Mediacom channel 80 or 15.1) and online at www.springfieldmo.gov/cityview, and will be replayed multiple times next week.
Several City departments have been working since 2007 to amend the City Code to better address the use of storage containers on private and commercial property. City Council has granted two administrative delays on enforcement in order allow time for further public input and revisions.
“The proposed amendments are a complete rewrite of the amendments proposed in 2008. The new proposal provides much more flexibility for the use of storage trailers and containers and does not require a permit,” said Director of Planning Ralph Rognstad. “Restrictions are included to address fire safety and protect adjoining properties from adverse impacts. We hope the community will review the proposal and provide comments either at the public forum or directly to staff.”
