For Immediate Release
Campbell Ave at Fassnight Park Closing July 19
Campbell Avenue between Meadowmere Street and Catalpa Street will be closed beginning at 8 a.m., Monday, July 19, 2010, and will remain closed for up to four months as part of the Fassnight Waterway/Stormwater Improvement Project.
The complete closure will be necessary as an entirely new bridge is constructed where Campbell crosses Fassnight Creek. The contractor has 120 days to finish work allowing for the re-opening of Campbell Avenue.
Southbound traffic on Campbell will be detoured via Grand Street, Grant Avenue and Sunshine Street. Northbound traffic on Campbell will be detoured via Bennett Street, Jefferson Avenue and Grand Street. The intersection of Bennett Street and Jefferson Avenue will be converted to a temporary 4-way stop during the northbound Campbell Avenue detour to accommodate the expected increase in traffic there.
During the Campbell closure, Catalpa Street will remain open for residents of the neighborhood north of the park. To the south, Meadowmere Street will be closed to through traffic, but will remain open for Parkview High School access.
Fassnight Park and Fassnight Pool will remain open throughout the closure, with access from Grant Avenue via Catalpa Street and Main Avenue. Pool hours will remain the same: 1-6:30 p.m., Tuesday-Sunday. Because the smaller bridge near the intersection of Main and Meadowmere also will be closed and replaced, access to the pool from Meadowmere will be limited and is not advised.
Following completion of the bridge and re-opening of Campbell Avenue, a similar closure for bridge replacement will take place on Grant Avenue.
The $5 million Fassnight Waterway project includes reconstruction of the channel and bridges to reduce flooding in nearby neighborhoods, while also providing water quality benefits and maintaining the historical appearance of the park. The General Contractor is Hartman & Company, Inc. All construction is scheduled for completion in Summer 2011.
