Police Arrest Nine in Prostitution Investigation

The Springfield Police Department arrested nine men in an undercover prostitution investigation yesterday afternoon. This operation was conducted by members of the Department's Community Oriented Patrol (COP) Officers, Patrol Officers and Detectives from the Special Investigations Unit. The enforcement took place yesterday afternoon at Grant Beach Park in Springfield in response to the numerous complaints this past year of prostitution. The nine men were arrested and cited for Patronizing Prostitution after they approached and solicited two female undercover officers in the park. All nine were arrested within a 3 hour time-frame.

This past year COP officers have been working with the Grant Beach, Robberson and West Central Neighborhood Associations in an effort to address their complaints of crime in their community. Prostitution was a chief complaint among the Grant Beach neighborhood and this enforcement effort was funded by the Community Development Block Grant program. This grant will be used in the future to fund additional enforcement efforts in order to address complaints within those neighborhoods.

The nine arrested and cited men have not yet been charged by the city prosecutor's office, but are identified as:
