Spare Tire Thefts Target College Campuses

The Springfield Police Department is currently working several thefts of spare tires around college campuses. Missouri State University has had seven tires stolen from vehicles parked on or near University property. Nearly twice that many have been reported stolen around the Drury University campus. Nearly all the targeted vehicles were SUVs with visible spare tires.

The thefts started during the first week classes resumed at the schools and have continued since. Police remind residents, students and staff near the universities to park in areas that are well-lit and report any suspicious behavior near the parking lots to Springfield Police, or the university security staff. Police encourage owners of SUVs to store their spare tires in the compartment areas of the vehicle.
