Mayor's Commission on Human Rights Members Complete Training
All current members of the Mayor’s Commission on Human Rights and Community Relations have completed an intensive 16-hour training session offered by Missouri State University’s Center for Dispute Resolution. Training took place on Sept. 10 and 11, 2010, at the group’s Park Central location.
Some of the areas covered were Elements and Dynamics of Conflict, Negotiation Theory, Mediation Process, Communications Process in Mediation, Mediator Style, Writing Agreements and Ethical Considerations. Commissioners also participated in mediation simulations as either mediator or complainant/respondent.
This is the same training that Missouri Human Rights Commission mediators undergo. Other agencies around the state also participate in this training in order to be recognized as mediators within the state.
Upon completion of this two-day training, Commissioners received certificates of mediation training citing completion of 16 hours in Civil Mediation.
