Results of Child Passenger Safety Week Enforcement

The Springfield Police Department participated in the Child Passenger Safety Week Law Enforcement Campaign, which was conducted Sept. 19-25, 2010. During this enforcement effort, officers issued a total of 117 traffic citations to include: one child safety seat violation, nine safety belt violations, and 92 speeding violations.

Missouri law requires all children under the age of eight to be in an appropriate child safety seat or booster seat unless they are 80 lbs. or 4’9” tall. The Springfield Police Department wants to remind parents and caregivers of the importance of child restraints.  It is not just about following the law. Car crashes are the number one killer of children. Regular child safety seat and safety belt use is the single most effective way to prevent serious injury and death during crashes.

Funding for this effort was provided through a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Division in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Missouri Safety Center. For more information, visit www.saveMOlives.com.
