Police Name Public Affairs Officer
The Springfield Police Department is pleased to announce the appointment of Corporal Matt Brown as the new Public Affairs Officer (PAO) for the department. The PAO will be the police department’s spokesperson and point of contact for the media. Cpl. Brown will also assist in the development and coordination of Public Service Announcements and play a major role in any public affairs projects involving the police department.
According to Police Chief Paul Williams, “Due to our staffing, we have not had a Public Affairs Officer for several years now, and have not been as responsive as I would like in keeping the public and media informed. The recent Cops Hiring Program Grant has put us in a position where I can now appoint an officer to carry out this important function. Cpl. Brown has 4 years of experience as a Public Affairs Officer and will do a fine job representing our department.”
Cpl. Brown joined the Springfield Police Department in 2000. He was a patrol officer, a Public Affairs Officer, a Major Crimes Investigator and Criminal Investigations Detective. He is also a Captain in the Missouri National Guard and recently returned from overseas in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with the 203rd Combat Engineer Battalion.
Cpl. Brown can be reached at 864-1786.
