For Immediate Release

Grant Avenue Closure November 15

Grant Avenue between Meadowmere Street and Catalpa Street will be closed beginning at 6 a.m., Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, and will remain closed for up to four months as part of the Fassnight Waterway/Stormwater Improvement Project.

The complete closure will be necessary as an entirely new bridge is constructed where Grant crosses Fassnight Creek. The new Grant Avenue bridge will be similar to the recently opened bridge on Campbell Avenue on the east side of Fassnight Park. The contractor has 120 days to finish work allowing for the re-opening of Grant Avenue.

Traffic on Grant will be detoured via Grand Street, Campbell Avenue and Sunshine Street.

During the Campbell closure, Catalpa Street will remain open for residents of the neighborhood north of the park. To the south, Meadowmere Street will be closed for a maximum of two weeks, also beginning on 6 a.m., Monday, Nov. 15, 2010.

Fassnight Park will remain open throughout the closure, with access from Grant Avenue via Catalpa Street and Main Avenue.

The $5 million Fassnight Waterway project includes reconstruction of the channel and bridges to reduce flooding in nearby neighborhoods, while also providing water quality benefits and maintaining the historical appearance of the park. The General Contractor is Hartman & Company, Inc. All construction is scheduled for completion in summer 2011.
