Fire Department Accepting Applications for Training Academy
The Springfield Fire Department is now accepting applications for the position of firefighter in order to establish a list for the next Fire Training Academy expected to start in late spring or early summer.
Applications are being accepted through 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 17, 2010. Applicants may apply at www.springfieldmo.gov/webapps/jobapp/.
Applicants may be eligible if they are at least 18 years old; are high-school graduates or have completed the G.E.D.; have no felony convictions and no serious misdemeanor convictions for the past five years; have vision correctable to 20/30; and are in excellent physical condition. In addition, they must meet at least one of the following minimum qualifications:
- EMT-B certification
- Firefighter I and II certification
- 36 accredited college hours
- Two years active-duty military service with honorable discharge
Written and physical/agility tests will be given the week of January 3. Applicants will be scheduled for written exams. Those who pass the written exam will be scheduled for physical/agility tests. Follow-up interviews will take place later in January and February.
The Fire Department expects to hire between six and 10 new firefighters to fill positions that are expected to become vacant by next summer.
