Turkey Trot Road Closures & New Record Attendance

As Springfield and Greene County prepare for the largest Thanksgiving Day run/walk in the state of Missouri, participants and motorists are advised to proceed with caution through the downtown area from 8 - 9 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010. Also, a number of incentives are available for race day participants and winners.

The 2010 course route can be found directly at http://bit.ly/eI2ooa. This year’s route will again include National Avenue, Grand Street, portions of Missouri State University’s campus, Harrison Street and Kimbrough Avenue. The event begins at 8 a.m. from the Springfield Expo Center on East St. Louis Street and ends on East Trafficway.

Parking near the Expo Center for participants and spectators is available at a number of surface lots, the Jordan Valley Car Park and other downtown lots near the Springfield Public Square. For a downtown parking map guide, visit http://bit.ly/ZQr7V.

“With only pre-registered participants at this point, we’ve already broken last year’s record of 6,229 runners and walkers, and could reach as many as 7,000 participants this year,” said Springfield-Greene County Park Board Director Jodie Adams. “We have again tweaked the route slightly to allow our participants to spread out more, making for safer and quicker travel through the Center City area.” The 5K course is a USA Track and Field (USATF)-certified course, which has had its distance certified for accuracy.

Awards are expected to begin inside the Expo Center at approximately 9 a.m. Participants who stay for the ceremony will have the opportunity to win the following prizes:

Packet Pick-up & Registration runs tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 24, at Mediacom Ice Park, 635 E. Trafficway, $25/adults and $20/youth 12 years of age and younger. All pre-registered participants who pick up their packet or those who register on-site at the Ice Park can enter a drawing to win a $200 gift certificate to The Starting Block sporting goods store. Whitaker Publishing also is providing 100 six-month subscriptions to 417 Magazine in randomly selected bags at the Ice Park.

Thanksgiving Day registration will run from 6:15 – 7:15 a.m. at the Springfield Expo Center, 635 E. St. Louis St.

The 16th annual Turkey Trot event benefits the Developmental Center of the Ozarks and the Springfield-Greene County Park Board’s Scholarship Fund.
