Overseas Military Participate in Turkey Trot Tonight

Tomorrow’s Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 5K event will have already taken place for a group of men and women serving with the Springfield-based Missouri Army National Guard 1107th Aviation Group stationed in Kuwait.

A number of the military personnel from the 1107th had participated in the annual 5K event, the largest Thanksgiving Day race in the state of Missouri, in the past. Event organizers shipped nearly three dozen of this year’s run shirts to some of the participants who would be a part of the larger group racing.

Because of the time difference, the runners will actually finish the race some nine hours prior to the 8 a.m. start tomorrow morning in Springfield.

MEDIA: A short video from the runners is expected immediately following their finish very early Thursday morning. A separate release with a link to download the video will be sent out mid-morning our time, along with an update on local race winners, attendance and other related items.

“When we heard from some of the members of our local Guard who wanted to ‘have a little taste of Springfield this Thanksgiving,’ in their words, by participating in this year’s Turkey Trot, we were excited that they chose to remember home by participating in this event,” said Director of Parks Jodie Adams. “What a perfect way to recognize those who protect our country day-in and day-out and give us reason to be thankful this Thanksgiving Day and beyond.”
