Springfield Man Charged With Sodomy

The Springfield Police Department arrested a registered sex offender yesterday on suspicion of sodomizing his girlfriend's two children. James L. Bays, 35, of Springfield, had initiated internet contact with the mother of the two victims earlier this year. By October, this internet contact led to a romantic relationship between Bays and the woman, who is also from Springfield. The two boys, ages 10 and 3, told their mother Bays was touching them inappropriately. The mother immediately contacted police and an investigation was initiated.

Springfield Police contacted Bays at his home at 1124 W. Atlantic yesterday and took him into custody. He was charged as a Prior and Persistent Sex Offender, with 2 counts of 1st Degree Statutory Sodomy, and is being held on a $250,000 bond.
