For Immediate Release
Park Central West Closure Begins Dec. 21
Park Central West between Campbell Avenue and Patton Avenue will be closed beginning at 7 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 21, for the construction of streetscape improvements. The road will remain closed until work is complete. The street and sidewalk construction on this block is expected to take approximately two months, weather permitting.
Pedestrian access will be maintained to all buildings throughout the closure. Delivery vehicles will be permitted as near their destination as practical within the construction area.
The Park Central East and West project consists of reconstruction of the street and sidewalks, renewal of landscape with fewer and larger irrigated planting areas, new ornamental lighting, and features to improve water quality on Park Central West between Campbell and Patton Avenues and on Park Central East between Robberson and Jefferson Avenues. A similar closure of Park Central East will occur in early 2011. Public Works will provide notice before that closure occurs.
Hunter Chase Construction Company began work on the $481,340 project on Dec. 6 and expects to complete the project in June. The work is funded by the 2007 ¼-Cent Sales Tax for Capital Improvement (43 percent), Community Development Block Grant funds (29 percent), Federal Transportation Enhancement Funds (26 percent), and a water quality grant from the James River Basin Partnership (2 percent).
