Winter Break, Snow Days & School's Out Programs for Kids
The Springfield-Greene County Park Board’s School, Parks Are Reaching Communities section (SPARC) offers a number of programs this winter when school is scheduled off or in the event of cancellation due to snow.
Winter Break Program
Open to any child in the area K-5th grade, the program runs 7 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 27 through Thursday, Dec. 30, for $12/child per day. Participants will enjoy games; arts and crafts; afternoon snack; daily field trips, including bowling, roller skating and indoor swimming. Participants should bring their own sack lunch each day. The Winter Break Program is held at Oak Grove Community Center, 1538 S. Oak Grove Ave. Registration is available daily on-site or for the entire week. Oak Grove center also features a new horizontal rock wall and bounce house.

School’s Out Program
Open to any child in the area K-5th grade, children will participate in games, arts and crafts, indoor fun and field trips. The day-long program runs 7 a.m. – 6 p.m., Jan. 14, Jan. 17, Feb. 21, March 21-25 during spring break and on April 22. The cost is $7-$12 per child per day. Children must bring a sack lunch.
Locations include Bissett, McBride, McGregor, Sequiota, Truman, Wanda Gray, Weaver and Westport Elementary Schools. Call 417-837-5737 for more information and to pre-register.
Snow Day Program
In the event of school cancellations due to winter weather, the SPARC Snow Day Program is activated from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m., at the Oak Grove Community Center, 1538 S. Oak Grove Ave.
The district-wide cancellation of Springfield Public Schools’ classes is the primary determining factor for opening the Park Board program at Oak Grove Center.
The Snow Day Program is open to any K-5th grade students, and includes scheduled games, arts and crafts, afternoon snack, movies, and indoor fun. Children must bring a sack lunch. The day-long program is $12 per child per day.
Registration runs from 7 – 9 a.m., at the Oak Grove Community Center, or until the program is full. The program is limited to the first 60 registrations per day. The Oak Grove Community Center phone number is 417-891-1635.
