Arbor Day Exhibit Features Local Elementary Art

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board and Missouri Department of Conservation are currently hosting an Arbor Day poster exhibit until Wednesday, Feb. 9 at the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center, 2400 S. Scenic Ave.

Regional elementary school students have entered their art for an Arbor Day Poster Contest. This year, the theme is "Trees are Terrific… and Energy Wise." The purpose of the contest is to allow students to interpret the theme in their own artistic way, while also offering curriculum that meets current state standards.

One winner from each of 10 participating Springfield-area elementary schools will be selected on February 1. Each winner will have a tree planted in their name at their school, as well as be entered into the state-wide poster competition. Of the 10 winners, one will be selected as the city-wide winner for Springfield. This student will have their tree planted at their school as part of the City of Springfield Arbor Day events during the month of April (date TBA).

The Arbor Day Poster Contest is sponsored by Missouri Community Forestry Council, Tree City USA Citizen's Advisory Committee, City of Springfield and Springfield-Greene County Park Board.
