Special Council Meeting Feb. 4 to Discuss Primary Election

The Springfield City Council will hold a special emergency meeting at 8:30 a.m., tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, to discuss potential contingency plans for the Tuesday, Feb. 8 municipal election due to weather-related concerns. The meeting will be held in the 4th floor conference room of the Busch Municipal Building, 840 Boonville Ave. The meeting is open to the public.

All six candidates appearing on Tuesday's ballot have been notified of the meeting and are aware of discussions about a contingency plan. There are two City Council primary races on the ballot: Council Zone 3 and General Seat C.

The City Attorney, City Clerk and County Clerk will be present to discuss contingency options.

Concerns center on available staffing for, and voter access to, polling places. Under state law, any final determination on such matters would be made by the Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District.
