Police Investigation Results in Mother, Child Reunion

On October 18th, 2010 officer were dispatched to the lobby of the Springfield Police Department to speak with a woman who said her son had been taken out of state by her boyfriend without her permission. The woman, identified as Britnay Cavazos said her 3 year old son was taken by the suspect but did not believe he was in any immediate danger. Since October, officers have worked with Cavazos to collect information regarding the whereabouts of her son.

The case was assigned to CID investigator Cpl Robert Byrne who contacted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and also the local office of the US Marshalls. Cpl Byrne was able to obtain information which led his investigation to Los Angeles California where he obtained a warrant for the arrest of the suspect, Bernard Rheaves. Rheaves was contacted by the Los Angeles US Marshalls office and arrested on the warrant.

Currently, Cavazos' son is en-route back to Springfield to be reunited with his mother.
