Hospital Fatality is Second Fire-related Death of 2011
Springfield saw its second fire-related fatality of 2011 this week. On Feb. 22, Eileen Moorehouse, age 64, succumbed to her injuries while a patient at St. John’s Hospital. On Feb. 6, 2011, Moorehouse was involved in a fire in her hospital room and sustained thermal and smoke injuries. The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental due to careless smoking.
This unfortunate incident highlights the dangers of smoking while using or near a personal oxygen tank system.
