Rescheduled Lake Springfield Spruce-Up Day

A rescheduled volunteer Lake Springfield Park Spruce-up Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, March 12, at Lake Springfield Park, 2312 E. Lake Springfield Park Road. The event was postponed earlier this month, due to weather.

Volunteers will help place mileage and tree identification markers throughout the park's one-mile Greater Ozarks Audubon Society hiking trail. They also will help cut and drag small trees and limbs to a chipper machine. These wood chips will be used to restore a glade area along the north shore banks of Lake Springfield and also on existing and new trail within the park. Due to the season and type of work, volunteers are asked to be 12 years of age or older.

All necessary tools will be provided. Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, sturdy shoes and to dress for the weather. Morning snacks and water will be provided. A light lunch also will be served to volunteers.

Pre-register by calling Park Board offices at 417-864-1051 by Wednesday, March 9 or register day-of at the Parks' Boathouse and Marina.

Volunteers should report to the Lake Springfield Boathouse and Marina for check-in at 9 a.m., Saturday. In the event of inclement weather, call the Boathouse at 417-891-1550 for cancellation information.

The event is presented by the Greater Ozarks Audubon Society, Missouri Department of Conservation, Volunteers for Outdoor Missouri and the Springfield-Greene County Park Board.
