Packer Road Improvements Cause Possible Closures

Work will begin next week, weather permitting, on roadway improvements to Packer Road in northeast Springfield. These improvements are in direct response to requests by area businesses to provide a safer roadway for the public and their employees.

The project will consist of replacing approximately 2,500 feet of narrow roadway with an upgraded surface and all-new gutters, curbs, sidewalks and concrete driveway approaches. An improved storm water system will also be constructed to improve drainage issues in the area.

The total cost of the project is $1,349,469, and is funded by the 1/4-Cent Sales Tax for Capital Improvements. Hartman and Company Inc. is the general contractor, with engineering and inspection provided by Public Works staff.

Construction is scheduled to begin on or near Monday, May 2. Work is expected to be complete in the fall. At times during construction, it will be necessary to close Packer Road or Blaine Street to all traffic except local traffic. During these closures, drivers should look for and follow marked detour routes.
