Free Event Lets Citizens Toss Used Tires

A City-wide Tire Toss targeting residents within Springfield's city limits will be held Saturday, May 7, from 8:00am – 1:00pm at Ozark Empire Fairgrounds (Gate 5). This event is an opportunity for all residents of Springfield to dispose of their unwanted tires for free through a grant provided by the Department of Natural Resources.

With the onset of warmer weather, accompanied with the earlier spring rains, waste tires provide a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes that can cause several health related issues, including the West Nile Virus. This event provides an easy way for city residents to clean up their alleyways and yards while also helping the environment.

This will be the 4th City-wide Tire Toss held in Springfield over the past 6 years. Previous efforts have helped dispose of over 25,000 waste tires that would have otherwise been littering our neighborhoods. Waste tires from businesses will not be accepted at this event, and an ID with proof of city residency may be required for drop-off.

The City-Wide Tire Toss is the result of the partnership between: Community Partnership's Caring Communities Initiative, City of Springfield, Urban Neighborhoods Alliance, Grant Beach Neighborhood Association, Springfield-Greene County Park Board, Community Foundation of the Ozarks, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, and Ozark Empire Fair.
