Child's Victim Unit Garners Special Recognition

The Missouri State Investigators Association (MSIA) has selected the Springfield Police Department's Child's Victim Unit as the investigative unit of the year. The award will be presented to the unit on Thursday, May 26th at the Inn at the Grand Glaize, Osage Beach, Mo.

The criteria for selection is based on the unit making an "exceptional contribution to the field of investigations and the community it serves". The unit is being recognized as providing outstanding investigative work, innovative services to the citizens they serve, contributing to the productivity of the SPD, and exceeding expectations set by the SPD.

The Child's Victim Unit consists of four investigators; Cpl. Fred Beck, Cpl. Eric Reece, Cpl. Steve Schwind and Cpl. Nathan Thomas. These four investigators have worked together since 2007 and have carried a combined case load of approximately 460 cases per year. Each investigator has been with the SPD 10 or more years, and each are highly trained in the area of investigating all crimes against children including child homicides.
